7 Family-Friendly Things to Do in Seoul (Recommended by a Seoul Tour Guide and Father)

If you’re visiting Seoul with children (kids or teenagers), you’re probably wondering which attractions are actually worth your time.

As a licensed Seoul tour guide with over 15 years of experience—and a father of a 9-year-old daughter—I’ve seen firsthand what excites kids, what bores them, and what creates lasting family memories.

Here are seven experiences I genuinely recommend for families visiting Seoul.

1. Wear a Hanbok and Explore Gyeongbokgung Palace

When most people think of Korean palaces, they imagine long history lessons and endless walking.

The reality is very different when children are wearing hanbok.

I’ve guided many families through Gyeongbokgung Palace, and kids often become much more engaged once they’re dressed like princes and princesses. Instead of simply looking at old buildings, they feel like they are stepping into a real-life fairy tale.

Recommended Age

4–15 years old

Time Needed

2–3 hours

My Guide’s Tip

Children usually begin losing interest after about 45 minutes inside the palace. I recommend focusing on the main areas rather than trying to see everything.

Many families also enjoy taking photos near Geunjeongjeon Hall, the palace’s most iconic building.

2. Ride the Seoul City Tour Bus

When visiting a large city with children, one of the biggest challenges is transportation.

After years of guiding foreign families in Seoul, I’ve noticed that children often get tired from walking long distances or navigating crowded subway stations. That’s why I frequently recommend the Seoul City Tour Bus.

The hop-on hop-off system allows families to visit major attractions at their own pace while enjoying the city from the comfort of their seats.

Instead of spending energy figuring out transportation, you can focus on enjoying the experience together.

Recommended Age

All ages

Time Needed

Half Day to Full Day

Why Families Love It

  • Easy transportation between major attractions
  • Less walking and fewer subway transfers
  • Great city views from the upper deck
  • Flexible hop-on hop-off schedule

Popular Stops

  • Gyeongbokgung Palace
  • Bukchon Hanok Village
  • N Seoul Tower
  • Myeongdong
  • Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP)
  • Insadong

My Guide’s Tip

I recommend using the City Tour Bus on your first or second day in Seoul. It helps children get an overview of the city while saving energy for other activities later in the trip.

If you’re traveling with younger children, try sitting on the upper deck. Many kids enjoy the ride itself as much as the destinations.

3. Enjoy a Han River Cruise

The Han River is one of my favorite recommendations for families.

After spending several days walking around palaces, markets, and museums, children often appreciate a slower-paced activity.

A river cruise allows everyone to sit down, relax, and enjoy Seoul from a completely different perspective.

Sunset cruises are particularly beautiful during spring and autumn.

Recommended Age

All ages

Time Needed

1–2 hours

My Guide’s Tip

If possible, choose an evening cruise. The illuminated bridges and city skyline make the experience much more memorable.

4. Make Traditional Korean Snacks Together

Families often tell me that the experiences their children remember most are not famous landmarks but activities they actually participated in.

That’s why I like traditional snack-making workshops.

Children can touch, shape, and taste Korean sweets while learning about Korean culture in a fun way.

It is also one of the best rainy-day activities in Seoul.

Recommended Age

5+

Time Needed

1–2 hours

My Guide’s Tip

Many workshops allow participants to take their creations home, which makes for a great edible souvenir.

5. Create Your Own Korean Perfume

At first glance, perfume-making might sound like an activity for adults.

However, I have noticed that teenagers especially love it.

Each family member can create a unique scent and take home a personalized souvenir that lasts much longer than a keychain or magnet.

Recommended Age

12+

Time Needed

1–2 hours

My Guide’s Tip

This is a great option if you’re traveling with teenagers who are no longer interested in typical children’s attractions.

6. Visit Seoul Sky Observatory

Located inside Lotte World Tower, Seoul Sky offers one of the best views in Korea.

Children are often most excited about the glass-floor observation deck, where they can look directly down at the city below.

Parents usually appreciate the incredible panoramic views stretching across Seoul.

Recommended Age

All ages

Time Needed

1–2 hours

My Guide’s Tip

Visit about an hour before sunset. You’ll be able to enjoy both daytime views and the city lights after dark.

7. Spend a Full Day at Lotte World

If your children could choose only one activity in Seoul, many would probably choose Lotte World.

It combines amusement rides, parades, indoor attractions, and outdoor attractions in one place.

Because much of the park is indoors, it’s also a reliable option during hot summers and rainy seasons.

Recommended Age

All ages

Time Needed

Full day

My Guide’s Tip

Arrive early in the morning. Popular attractions can develop long queues later in the day.

My Personal Ranking for Families

After years of guiding foreign families around Seoul, this is how I would rank these experiences for overall family satisfaction:

🥇 Hanbok Experience at Gyeongbokgung Palace

🥈 Seoul City Tour Bus

🥉 Han River Cruise

4️⃣ Seoul Sky

5️⃣ Traditional Korean Snack Workshop

6️⃣ Lotte World

7️⃣ Perfume Workshop (best for teens)

Final Thoughts

Seoul is one of the easiest cities in Asia to travel with children.

The city is clean, safe, and full of activities that combine entertainment with cultural experiences.

As both a Seoul tour guide and a father, I believe the best family trips are not about checking attractions off a list—they’re about creating moments your children will still remember years later.
